Episode highlights…

  1. I share a story that makes me look like a complete knucklehead. It revolves around how I got “robbed” while in Colombia, South America.

  2. The 4 lessons learned from this experience.

    • Intelligence is domain specific.

    • Emotions wreak havoc on our ability to think rationally.

    • We don’t know what we don’t know.

    • We have an incredible ability to rationalize really bad behaviours.

  3. I then tie the lessons into why smart people make dumb eating choices.

    • We have a low eating IQ. I call this Eating Intelligence.

    • We are unaware of the emotional triggers that set us off.

    • We have no idea what beliefs we have that simply are not true (False Beliefs.)

    • Our incredible ability to rationalize our lousy behaviours (Rationalization Bias.)

  4. I end with a big takeaway…how we can and should pursue Intellectual Humility so we can increase our odds of making smarter decisions in all of life.

How to listen and act on this episode!

  1. Listen with an open mind and be willing to challenging your assumptions about what you believe to be true.

  2. Focus on one big idea that resonates and find a way to test it now.

  3. Start small with a behaviour that has minimal emotional friction attached. For example, if you constantly misplace your keys, start with that and create a brain training protocol to help you eliminate that problem.

  4. Track your progress and refine your process.

  5. Extract the wisdom and apply it to a more challenging brain training activity.

  6. Repeat the framework for the duration of your life.

Good luck my friend,

To becoming unrecognizable,

Dean
