The power of doing gratitude backwards.
π Plus: Mindsets from Matthew McConaughey & billionaire Charlie Munger & training for old age like a professional athlete.
Hey β Itβs Dean.

Each week I share game-changing mindsets from remarkable people doing extraordinary things.
Here are the five I uncovered this week.
Please steal shamelessly. Thank you!

1/ A mindset from Charlie Munger.
Who is Charlie?
He is one half of the dynamic investment duo behind Berkshire Hathaway. Who is the other? None other than Warren Buffett.
Why does Charlie matter?
He is widely considered to be one of the greatest thinkers alive. And he is 99 years old and continues to drop life changing wisdom on a regular basis.
What mindset did he reveal? πππ
Why this mindset matters.
To always be learning means we must constantly expose ourself to new knowledge, people and experiences.
Constant learning keeps our brain healthy and our cognitive abilities sharp so we can get to 99 and beyond with a full bag of mental marbles.
Continuous learning is one of the secrets to living a really good life.
π§ Mindset worth stealing: Learn one new thing everyday.
2/ A new mindset about gratitude.
I think we do gratitude wrong.
Reflecting on what you are grateful for at the end of the day is reactive gratitude.
We missed experiencing it while it was happening.
The solution is to do gratitude in reverse.
Hereβs how I do it.
Thatβs the question I ask myself in the morning while Iβm in the shower.
Asking what I will be grateful for serves a few purposes.
It makes me reflect on my plan for the day.
It forces me to focus on the outcomes I seek.
And I enjoy all the benefits that come with a reverse gratitude practice for the entire day vs. just a few minutes before I go to bed.
π§ Mindset worth stealing: Practice gratitude in reverse.
3/ A mindset on how to grow old.
I came across this really wonderful tweet from bestselling author Steven Kotler.
It highlights some of the key elements in his new book about aging successfully.
Isnβt that an awesomely counterintuitive mindset about aging?
Here are a few other things Steven mentioned in his Twitter thread that are valuable.
with proper training we can retain 70% or more of our physical abilities.
there are 5 major categories of athletic performance that we must work on
strength
stamina
flexibility
agility
balance
Itβs not just about training like a pro. We must also recover like a pro.
π§
Mindset worth stealing: Train like a pro to age like a pro.
4/ A visual that changed my mindset.
I walk a fair bit.
But I often have to force myself to go for a walk.
Resorting to force is an indication Iβm not clear why I am doing the thing I supposedly want to do.
The image above has changed how I think about walking with regards to the positive influence it has on my brain health and function.
As a result, my walking has taken on a new purpose.

5/ A mindset from Matthew McConaughey.
I heard Matthew drop this mindset insight while being interviewed by ESPN.
His wording created a powerful visual about the importance of knowing what your endgame will look like when you arrive.
Hereβs how I am putting that to use.
I have created some amazing results for myself over the past 4 yearsβ¦
lost 45lbs
went from a 36 inch waist to a 29 inch waist
reduced my body fat from 23% to 9.6%.
But I decided a few weeks ago I want to take the next step in my Successful Body journey β without doing anything stupid or extreme.
So I searched online for my target.
I landed on this.
Is that achievable? Dunno!
But the journey itself will be great fun, whether I get there or not.
So enough about me. Letβs put the focus on you.
How could you use this mindset to create a visual target that will help you shoot your arrows in the right direction?
π§ Mindset worth stealing: The target attracts the arrow.
That is all for today.
See you next Sunday my friend.
And hey β keep being awesome.
