The Psychology of Everything.
🧠 Plus: Amazing mindsets from Jerry Seinfeld, Joe Rogan and others.
Hey — It’s Dean.
Welcome to the 135th consecutive edition of the newsletter.
I have made a few tweaks to the newsletter to make it more valuable to you and I.
The primary one is the name. Instead of calling it The Psychology of Weight Loss” it will now be called…
The Psychology of Everything → Mindset secrets from highly successful people that will transform what you think, how you behave and who you become.
This allows me to expand my cognitive apprenticeship and uncover the unique mindsets of the most successful and figure out how to apply them to the different aspects of my life — and help you do the same.
*****
With that said, here are 5 mindsets I uncovered this past week that had a profound impact on my thinking.
Steal shamelessly so they can do the same for you.
1/ A Joe Rogan Mindset.
Rogan is many things…
a highly successful podcaster
comedian
and UFC announcer.
He also has been highly controversial with some of the people/nut jobs he interviews, comments he makes and weird theories he believes.
But that doesn’t mean I am going to dismiss wisdom he might disseminate on occasion.
This Rogan Mindset Reveal came courtesy of Ben Meer, who writes about systems to increase health, wealth and free time.
It’s a question that Joe asks to guide his behaviour.
“What would you do right now if a documentary crew were following you around?”
It’s a fascinating question.
We definitely behave better when we are being watched vs when we think we’re not.
If you were being watched would you…
Make healthier diet and exercise choices?
Use your time more productively?
Be more present and patient with your loved ones?
Be kinder to strangers, people in the service industry and your coworkers?
Participate in your usual vices?
I can tell you on my end, that if a documentary crew were following me the question wouldn’t be, “What would I do?” it would be “What will I NOT be doing.” 🙃

Mindset worth stealing → Craft questions that nudge you toward the desired behaviours you seek.
2/ A Seinfeld Mindset.
Jerry shared this insight into how he thinks about quality time with his kids.
I love the thinking, but I’m going to make a tweak.
Rather than calling it garbage time, think of it as finding the marvellous in the mundane.
And not just with your kids, but with anyone.

Mindset worth stealing → Find the marvellous in the mundane.
3/ A Naval Ravikant Mindset.
Naval is the Cofounder of Angel List and a big deal on Twitter.
This recent tweet caught my attention.
I love this because it’s really a mindset/formula on how to be original…
→ Combine a collection of other people’s ideas to solve a problem in a way that no one would ever think to do. ←
For example…
There is a company I stumbled on called Made in Space.
They created a business that has no competitors by combining 3 ideas (none of them their own) in a way no one else had ever considered.
They put a 3-D printer on the International Space station and connected it to the internet so they could print space parts in space.
How brilliant is that?
*****
Mindset worth stealing → Novel solutions to difficult problems can be found by combining ideas from different domains in a way that no one else can.
4/ A Morgan Housel Mindset.
Morgan is the author of the mega best seller, “The Psychology of Money.”
Below he talks about the power of having a really long runway.
This idea is not just important with the money you invest, it also applies to the habits you invest in.
I have talked a lot in previous newsletters about the fact that I have been successful on my weight loss journey because I have adopted a really long runway (the rest of my life) with the weight loss habits I have adopted.
This allows me to overcome mistakes, compound my consistency and use time’s length to my advantage to create something remarkable.
*****
Mindset worth stealing → The longer your runway the longer your odds of success.
5/ A Mindset from Barnett C. Helzberg Jr.
Barnett owned Helzberg Diamonds and sold it to Warren Buffett in 1994.
He then wrote a book called, “What I learned before I sold to Warren Buffett: An Entrepreneur’s guide to developing a highly successful business.”
It’s a book filled with dazzling insights, but this mindset really stood out to me.
I love the idea of not only refusing to acknowledge anything that you can’t control, but to never give that pain a voice.
*****
Mindset worth stealing → Focus on those things that lie within your circle of influence. Ignore anything that sits outside of that.
That is all for today.
See you next Sunday my friend.
And hey — keep being awesome.
