Psst! I've been experimenting with names and formats for this newsletter. I’m hoping my monkey brain 🙉 will let this present iteration live.🤞
1/ A mindset mantra I’m using.
🎁 Why this matters to me → This is a great mental short cut to help improve decision making around food choices. And it’s something my mom said to me the other day!! #onesmartmomma
🎬 How you can take action → Each time you are about to eat something, ask yourself this question…
→ Is this healing me❤️🩹 or harming me🤮?
2/ A training framework I’m stealing.
This is from David Goggins. He calls it, “Nickels and Dimes.” It’s worth stealing.
🏋️ How he is using this → Every minute he does 5 pull ups and 10 push ups. He does this 15 times.
😤 How I’m using it → I do 5 pull ups and 10 push ups throughout the course of my day. I stop when I have done 30 pull ups and 50 push ups.
🎬 How you can take action → Steal the nickel and dimes framework to do any two exercises you desire.
→ ie. 5 push ups and 10 body weight squats at whatever frequency works for you.
3/ A question I’m asking.
This comes from Tim Ferriss via Pat Flynn.
🤔What the question is → If this was easy, what would it look like?
🔥How Pat used this → He shared two business examples of this question in action. One was for an online course he created and made $1.7 million from. The other was a physical product he invented that had a $500,000 launch.
🎁What I got from this → Humans are hardwired for complexity. Simplicity, not so much. It is a skill we must work really hard to teach ourselves how to excel at.
🎬 How you can take action → Use this question in any area of life that you are presently struggling with.
📧 Message me if you are open to sharing how you used this question.
4/ A simple rule I follow.
🔥Why it matters → People dramatically underestimate how many calories their drinks contain. These calories add up quickly, and prevent many from losing weight.
👀What this looks like for me → There are only 3 things I drink.
Water.
Black coffee.
Herbal tea.
📝 Note → The only exception is alcohol, but I have this infrequently, and that too is governed by a set of simple rules to keep it in check.
🎬 How you can take action → Do a liquid autopsy. What caloric drinks are you consuming? How could you begin the process of weening them out of your diet.
5/ How to talk to yourself.
🎥 The back story → I heard Adam mention this while in conversation with rock climber Alex Honnold, who is the subject of the Oscar winning documentary, Free Solo. The science is based on the work of Ethan Kross, who is one of the world’s leading experts on controlling the conscious mind.
🎁What I got from this → I am going to start talking to myself in the second person and give myself advice like I would to someone else.
→For example, instead of saying “I got this.” say “You got this.”
🎬 How you can take action → The advice you give is usually the advice you need to take, so the next time you are trying to psych yourself up for something do it in the second person.
→For example, instead of saying “I will eat on plan today.” say “You will eat on plan today.”
