Psst! My monkey brain 🙉 still hasn’t settled on a newsletter name. Mindset is the thing I’m most passionate about, so I’m back to…
Mindset Secrets → Master the Psychology of Success.
1/ The Habit Bundling Mindset.
My internet provider does something very clever. They bundle services together like internet, cable, and cellphone so that I get greater bang for my buck.
🎁 Why this matters to me → Each habit I do has an impact on every other habit. For example, I have 10 essential habits I do every single day to build my version of a highly successful body. While each serves a specific purpose, they directly or indirectly have an impact on my other habits. I visualize it like this.
🎥 The big picture → A single habit has a linear impact. Habit bundles have an exponential impact that far exceeds the sum.
🎬 How you can take action → What are habits that you could begin to bundle together that would have an exponential impact on the goals you are seeking to achieve?
2/ The Simplicity Mindset.
Here’s a powerful lesson to steal from the game show, The Price is Right.
🤔 What I got from this → The simpler the solutions I adopt, the greater the likelihood they will endure for years and decades to come.
🔥 How I’m using it → I have created a training program that requires no gym, no change of clothes, no money and no equipment. I can train anywhere in the world my feet are. That simplicity has allowed me to train successfully for1500 days in a row.
🎬 How you can take action → What bottlenecks can you remove to make important things simpler?
*****
On a sad note, Bob Barker, the original host of the show passed away yesterday at 99. He is best known for this hilarious clip with Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore.”
3/ A quote I’m pondering.
🤔 How I think about this → Seeking simple solutions for simple problems sounds easy, but in reality humans are hardwired for complexity.
🔥 What it has me thinking about → There is a huge market for simple tools that solve simple problems.
🎬 How you can take action → What’s something complex that you have solved using a simple solution?
4/ The Ikea Effect Mindset.
🤔 How I think about this → The Ikea Effect works because we have “skin” in the game. We are part of the solution.
🔥 How I use this → Even if I am using someone else’s solution to solve my problem, I always look for ways to make it my own. One way I do that is by giving it a new name. Naming it creates ownership which creates behaviours that are in line with people who have an owner’s mindset vs a renter’s mindset.
💪 Example → I call my weight loss program “The Successful Body.”
🎬 How you can take action → Take ownership by naming the next solution you are looking to create to solve a pressing problem.
5/ How I train.
In July of 2019 I did something pretty radical.
I threw out everything I thought I knew about diet and exercise and started from scratch to design something that would work for my physiology, psychology and philosophy.
One of the cool things I ended up designing for myself is something I call “Squeeze Training.”
Here are my eight rules.
I don’t go to a gym. I must be able to train wherever my feet are.
I never change into workout clothes — I always train in the clothes I’m wearing that day.
I never do more than 15 minutes of training a day.
I don’t train all at once. I squeeze it into small available moments throughout my day.
I only do 4 things.
30 pull ups (10 on my worst day)
100 push ups (25 on my worst day)
100 core reps (25 on my worst day)
50 lower body reps (10 on my worst day)
I train every day. Today is day 1500.
I have a minimum number to do on my worst days.
I compound consistency by using time’s length to my advantage. By bundling days into weeks, then months and now years I have been able to achieve some pretty remarkable things.
🎬 How you can take action → The key to weight loss success is to stop following rules that were never designed for your DNA. Begin doing the work to design your own rules — something unique for your physiology, psychology and philosophy
