Ignore the "experts"
🍿Plus: The habit ladder, creating your own rules and the power of the vital few.
Hola!! Welcome to the 158th consecutive week publishing this newsletter.
Here are 5 things I am revisiting on my journey to transform my body, work and life.
Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you.
1/ Ignore the “Experts.”

Takeaway #1…
It doesn’t matter whether people think your idea is fantastic or idiotic, what matters is that you have a sound approach to test the viability of your solution using as few resources as possible.
Takeaway #2…
The marketplace votes on the legitimacy of ideas with their wallet, not their opinions. When testing your ideas don’t ask people for their thoughts, ask for their money.
2/ Find the minimal viable threshold.

Takeaway…
The term I coined for lowering the stakes to increase the odds of success is the Minimum Viable Threshold (MVT).
You break down an audacious goal into 5 to 10 behaviours that escalate in difficulty, but build off the habit that came before.
Start with the smallest behaviour you can handle and spend as much time as needed to achieve mastery before ascending to the next.
3/ Create your own rules.
Takeaway #1…
The problem with humans is this false notion that there are rules that must be followed without question. Innovation comes from those who make their own rules to create something remarkable.
Takeaway #2…
Creating your own rules also plays nicely into a cognitive bias called “The Ikea Effect.” It states that we place a higher value on things that we help build or create. The most enduring transformations come to those who have an ownership stake in the solution.
4/ Subtraction and simplicity in action.
Takeaway #1…
Many problems could be extinguished if we deliberately used subtraction.
Takeaway #2…
Because addition is the default for solving problems, there is tremendous opportunity to create novel solutions using subtraction.
5/ Focus on the vital few.
Takeaway…
The goal with anything is NOT to try and do everything. The goal is to identify a few big levers (Essential Habits) that will deliver the bulk of the results.
That’s it for today. 🙏 Thanks for reading.
